Ashburton Road, Newton Abbot

Works Update 29/08/19

We will be closing Laurie Avenue at the junction with Ashburton road on Thursday 5th September 2019 between 09:30 and 15:30. Access to properties in Laurie Avenue will be available at all times, but via Rosemary Avenue only.

We will be closing Elmwood Avenue at the junction with Ashburton road on Friday 6th September 2019 between 09:30 and 15:30. Access shall be available via Applegarth Avenue and Applegarth Close at all times.

The purpose is to construct speed tables in both locations.

This was originally posted on 19th August but DCC Highways informed us this clashed with other planned works in the area. However we have again now been informed we can proceed with the programme of surfacing of the footpath continuing on until week ending Friday 27th September, therefore propose to close the above roads in line with our original plan to complete this work.

Works Update 23/08/19

The proposed closures of Laurie Avenue and Elmwood Avenue at their junctions with Ashburton Road on Thursday 5th September 2019 and Friday 6th September 2019 respectively, have had to be cancelled temporarily. This is due to a clash of dates to the planned works and associated traffic management set up by Wales and West on the Jetty Marsh roundabout (to the east of Ashburton Road) and the school term starting on the 02/09/2019.

We shall endeavour to complete this work and update this site as soon as new dates have been agreed with DCC Highways.

Works Update 05/08/19

Week commencing 12th August we are doing the drain lining to be followed by final surfacing on the footpath / cycleway w/c 19th August for approximately 2 weeks.

There is 1.2km of 4m wide footpaths to resurface. What is there currently is only a temporary surface. The covers on the footpaths have been raised in readiness for the footway surfacing. We have put temporary tarmac ramps in place around these to prevent it being a trip hazard.

The surfacing work on the footpaths will be completed in 300m stretches with temporary traffic lights operating to create a safety lane for our workforce and machinery alongside the footpath.

There shall be footpath diversions signposted during this work.
