Bournemouth Pier Approach-Phase 2
Following the completion of Phase One the next stage of the Pier Approach Improvements Phase Two will go ahead completing the major public realm scheme which covers the western side of this landmark site.
Bournemouth Borough Council has worked with the Dorset Coastal Community Team (DCCT) led by the Dorset Coast Forum to develop the Dorset Coastal Connections – People and Places project to submit a Dorset wide ‘Coastal Connections’ bid for £5.6m funding to deliver 18 improvement projects across the coastline. The Forum will work with numerous partners and coastal communities to develop and deliver each part of Dorset Coastal Connections over the next 2.5 years.
In Bournemouth, £2million has been awarded to enable the Council to progress with the transformation of Pier Approach, and specifically the street scene to the west of the Pier.
Initial preparation work to deliver Bournemouth’s Pier Approach Improvements Phase Two will start in September 2017, with the main works commencing after the Marathon on 9th October. It is programmed to be complete in time for the 2018 summer season.
During October to Christmas large areas of Pier Approach will be excavated to enable underground services and drainage to be installed and ground to be prepared for high quality granite paving. Paving works are programmed to commence just before Christmas and will be phased in such a way as to maintain access to all businesses and attractions.
The works will also see the installation of new planters similar to those in Phase One, new underground bins and the installation of new street furniture.
Griffiths has been appointed to construct the works drawing on their vast experience of similar high spec town centre and water front public realm works.
