Brook Street Bridge

The Brook Street Footbridge Replacement is a scheme which entails the replacement of the existing Footbridge over the Rhondda river and the adjacent rail line.

The aim of the scheme is to enhance the pedestrian links between Brook Street and Nant Gwyddon Close, improving the local environment and connectivity of the area. The package of works is being undertaken on behalf of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Council as part of the South East Wales Framework.

The scheme aims to support local residents and businesses by increasing connectivity over the existing river and to increase disabled access to Ystrad train station. The bridge will be taken through planning and detailed design in 2017 with close liaison with the surrounding community. A number of options will be developed for the planning process and the preferred option taken onto detailed design with the aim to start construction later in 2018.

Griffiths has been appointed by Rhondda Cynon Taff Council as the main contractor and will work closely with our designers, Cass Hayward, to develop a cost effective solution that will bring considerable benefits to the local community.

Please note this scheme is not currently registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme but will abide by the Code of Considerate Practice.
